This is possibly the most amazing example of harmonica and bodhran drumming I've ever heard...  I'm learning the bodhran and harmonica and can only pray that someday I'll have a small percentage of the skill and musicality of these two musicians...  I know you will enjoy this "Sweet Bulgarity"....

Ok, here is something that kinda blows my mind!  This very short video shows a pulsar (a collapsed star) that spins 11 times per second and radiates all kinds of cosmic energy.  The "sound" emitted by the pulsar sounds very much like an authentic African village drumming!!  Listen to it and notice the beats and the different types of drums being "played"!!  Trust me, it's worth 30 seconds of your time.... The Universe has it's own drum circles....

Mickey Hart, former drummer with the Grateful Dead, now a drum shaman extrordinaire....introduces his Global Drum Project and performs some amazing drum work with his drum band....oh, yeah!!  Dedicated to Babatunde Olatunji.

Don't forget the drum circle happening in Mountain View at 2-5 PM every 2nd and 4th Sunday...THIS Sunday!!!!  In the gazebo next to the bank, across from Full Circle Healing Center on Main Street....

A fairly new type of drum, called a "hang drum", is starting to become very popular because of the very unusual and beautiful tones and songs that can be created on these drums.  One of my favorite hang drum groups is "Hang Massive"....here is their latest project....hope you enjoy it!

THERE IS NO MOVEMENT WITHOUT RHYTHM

Here is a marvelous video from Guinee which shows how rhythm is in all things. Some wonderful footage of how a djembe drum is made in the traditional way as well. Hope you enjoy this!

THERE IS NO MOVEMENT WITHOUT RHYTHM

Life has a rhythm, it's constantly moving.
The word for rhythm ( used by the Malinke tribes ) is FOLI.
It is a word that encompasses so much more than drumming, dancing or sound.
It's found in every part of daily life.
In this film you not only hear and feel rhythm but you see it.
It's an extraordinary blend of image and sound that
feeds the senses and reminds us all
how essential it is.

New Drum Circle in Mtn. View!

Hey y'all....I told you I wouldn't flood your email inbox...it's been almost a year since my last post!  So sorry, but you know how it goes...

I've cleaned up and updated this website and will be more active here, so be ready for some new drum-related info heading your way.  Please feel free to share this blog with friends or your social networks...Be sure to explore this site, and especially the two music players...tons of great drumming music there, for free...and don't miss all the videos and drum lessons/examples!

We have exciting news:  A new drum circle has been formed in Mountain View AR, thanks to Jana at the new "Full Circle Healing Center"/"Gray Thunder Mercantile" store at 122 E. Main, Mtn. View.  Jana is hosting the drum circle inside her Healing Center, but if the weather is nice, the circle will be in the gazebo in the park across the street.  Come join the great fun every 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month, from 2-5PM...there have been pretty large groups so far, with several of the "traditional" folk musicians in the area attending. Some folks have stayed past 5PM for even more rhythmic healing!

Please let me know if you have something to share with the local drum community, or if you have ideas or suggestions about how this site could be improved!  What would you like to see?

Drum on!!  -Omar

Amazing Bodhran Drumming!

Holy Moley!  I've never really investigated Bodhran drum music that much, for various ego related reasons, but I just found this video and was astounded!!  These guys are fantastic...

A favorite frame drummer of mine has always been Glen Velez.  His music makes me shiver and shake!   This music can be used for Shamanic Trance explorations:

Have yourself a merry little day!
